This was posted in the Dogsville forum on the ASPCA's website & I just thought I'd share. Made me cry thinking of my Gracie who passed away on Friday January 23 of this year.
What a great dog she was!
TREAT me kindly, my beloved friend for no heart in the entire world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
DO not break my spirit with a stick, for though; I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me things you would have me learn.
SPEAK to me often, for the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
PLEASE take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
KEEP my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I thirst.
FEED me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
AND my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safeest in your hands.

Aw, that's so sweet. Made me smile. Animals are such wonderful creatures. I just can't imagine why somebody would ever want to purposely hurt them.
Definitely true. They've kept me going many many times.
Here's a different version of it:
The Ten Commandments of Dog Ownership
(Author unknown)
I
My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years.
Any separation from you will be painful for me.
Remember that before you aquire me.
II
Give me time to understand what you want from me.
III
Place your trust in me.
Remember that before you aquire me.
IV
Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your friends, and your entertainment.
I ONLY HAVE YOU!
V
Talk to me sometimes.
Even if I don't understand your words.
I understand your voice when it is speaking to me.
Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget.
VI
Remember before you hit me that I have teeth than can easily crush the bones in your hand,
but I choose NOT TO BITE YOU.
VII
Before you scold me for being uncooperative,
obstinate, or lazy,
ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I don't understand what you ask of me or perhaps I am not feeling well,
not getting the right food,
been out in the sun too long,
or my heart is getting old and weak.
VIII
Take care of me when I get old,
you too will grow old.
IX
Go with me on difficult journeys.
Never say "I can't bear to watch" or "let it happen in my absence".
EVERYTHING IS EASIER IF YOU ARE THERE.

REMEMBER I LOVE YOU!
Oh, I received that before, only that's I guess why they didn't title it the 10 Dog Commandments.
That one's cute too.
Awww, they're both so cute.
Aww! Both versions are so adorable they almost make me want a dog. Almost. I had one for a little over a day. Then the managers of my apartment complex made me get rid of her. She was more real than most people I've met in my lifetime, and there will be no replacing her. Oh I'll let my kids have a dog if they want one, but it won't be the same. Talk soon.

I have a dog named gypsy, I have spoke about her before here, and, she's a wonderful dog. I think though, she was abused before I got her. how anyone can stand to hurt a dog like that, I don't know. I almost cry when I step on her paw or something on acsodent, so hitting her or harming her is a big no no for me. but yes, those things are adorible.
i love dogs!!!!!!! These were wonderful!!!! You made my day!!!
